Teachers, you are busy with preparations for the next day's classes, grading papers and writing recommendations. When do you have time to gather material for students to practice editorial or column writing with the facts?

Students, you have homework, club activities and sports games and music lessons. When is there time to do research?

We have compiled two Case Studies for you. Use them as sources of ideas and facts.

"Case Study: Violence in Schools" is more a compilation of activities and guidelines for teachers resulting from emphasis in 1999 on several years of shootings in schools. It offers links to sites which will provide information for students.

"Case Study: Religion in Public Schools" is a thorough research project which provides historic perspective, Supreme Court cases, examples of First Amendment application to religion in the public schools today in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, and much more. Look at the interviews which were conducted as well as the comprehensive bibliography. It is an example of presenting the results of a research project in the form of a Web site.
